The Red Quartet at the Mercury Restaurant and Lounge (every Wednesday night).
Formed out of the UW School of Music Jazz Program under Les Thimmig and Jim Dogherty,
this group has played all overtown from the Fluno center to the opening of the Sundance 608 Theatre.
Saxophonist Tony Bauer is a band director with a degree in saxophone under Les Thimmig. Olivia Musat
is an exciting pianist studying with Christopher Taylor. She is currently studying in Paris, which brings us
Richard Hildner on guitar. Richard comes to us from the Duke Jazz Ensemble and has performed jazz and
Peruvian music around the world. Bassist Matt Donoghue, student of Richard Davis and the Black Music
Ensemble, takes a solid leadership role in performances. Along with John Doing, this group performs every
Wednesday night at the Mercury Restaurant and Lounge, and every other Monday at Cafe Montemartre.

WADOMA is a high-energy group that brings Drum and Dance from Guinea and Mali to the Madison
community. Choreographed drama and solo dances are supercharged by burning lead Djembe players, Paddy
Cassidy and Shawn Barry. This group plays everything from community events to large venues with a force
that does not require amplification. For booking or to learn more about WADOMA, go to www.wadoma.com

Wadoma Performance 2005

The Rhythm Section with Black Dog at the Terrace
The Rhythm Section features drummers from WADOMA in a different context. We play
West African percussion backed by drumset to fuse hip-hop, funk, and Afro-Latin rhythms with
djembe music. We play the first Tuesday of every month at Cafe Montemartre and have played on the
Memorial Union Terrace and at the Orpheum.

Houses in Motion on Halloween at Cafe Montemartre
The Talking Heads tribute band, Houses in Motion, has perhaps the largest following of any band
in town. The High Noon Saloon gets packed so tight theres just enough room to shake yourself, and
Café Monmartre often has people dancing on top of tables. Catch this group on a Friday or Saturday
night for a funky dance party.

This is a group of students of music. Whether graduated from the UW School of Music or still a
music major, each member is in avid pursuit of new musical ideas. The group began by playing covers
by groups such as Weather Report, Joshua Redman, Victor Wooten and others. Having finished
their first recording of original music this Winter, this group constantly pushes the front edge of jazz
and funk fusion.
